Emoji Tracker: An experiment by Rocket Workshop in realtime tracking of all emoji used on twitter. It takes advantage of a number of technologies, notably the twitter streaming API, redis, SSE, and other good stuff.

Butterick’s Practical Typography: Matthew Butterick is an attorney with a degree in graphic design and typography from Harvard. He believes almost everyone is a “typographer” even if you are simply just creating documents of any sort on a computer. Matthew also believes that bad typography is everywhere, and he wanted do something to change that. With that goal in mind, Matthew compiled basic typographic instruction into his online book, Butterick’s Practical Typography. The book allows readers to dive into particular chapters or topics to discover the rules and practice of quality typographic expression.

Fragmented Memory: Phillip Stearns has managed to objectify his computer’s raw memory data into a purchasable household product. Fragmented Memory, which plays within both digital and physics realms, essentially generates images based upon physical memory using custom Processing software. Interaction of Color App: Yale Uni­ver­sity Press has released an iPad app ver­sion of Josef Albers’s influ­en­tial book, Inter­ac­tion of Color. Designed by Potion, the app fea­tures archival video of Josef Albers in the stu­dio and class­room, videos of prac­tic­ing artists, design­ers, and archi­tects dis­cussing how they use color, and 63 fully inter­ac­tive plates.
