When good buddy and former professor Willem Henri Lucas proposed to UA5 to build him a website, the two things that popped in to our minds were grids and the font-face Letter Gothic. He gave us the challenge to somehow bring his work to life; which consists mostly of books he’s designed for large cultural institutions throughout the world.
UA5 set out to build a multi-media Flash website that exuded the quirky mood of Henri&rsquos work with a subtle use of animation. We focused on making it restrained and minimal, so the flash loads quickly and his vibrant work pops out of the screen.
UA5 used video, which was shot in a day, to convey the complex print concepts and typographic grids much more clearly than what you see in pictures.
The website has been featured on several Best of the Best lists, as well as helped Henri showcase his work around the world and in meetings without having to mail/carry around a portfolio of his work.
